Scaling Finance efficiently

This client remains in true hypergrowth, expanding headcount and investment at a rapid pace. The CFO and VP of Finance needed to scale the Finance function in a capital-efficient manner, keeping as much investment as possible flowing to R&D.

The client had a clean foundation to build on with CRM, ERP, and HRIS tools in place. The CFO had prior experience with CPM tools but wanted an approach more open to AI and headless, without a need to log into another system. As an AI company itself, the client needed its own Finance function at the forefront.

Establishing the data and planning foundation

OVG started by establishing a data foundation in Microsoft Fabric, centralizing key structured data from the ERP, HRIS, ATS, CRM, and other core systems of record.

Department budgeting ran through Excel templates customized by department and consolidated into Fabric. Operating and capital expenditures were planned together, keeping the focus on cash flow. Maintaining flexibility was critical as their business was changing in real time. Improving reporting views and launching a new forecasting model happened in days, not weeks.

True closed-loop headcount planning

Headcount was a growing priority. Recruiting and Finance needed to establish coordinated processes without disrupting hiring managers.

OVG helped the client establish a true end-to-end process: a simple app for submitting hiring requests that, once approved by executives and Finance, fed automatically into both Fabric and the client’s ATS, which subsequently loaded pipeline back into Fabric for forecasting. The process delivered valuable control and visibility for leadership.

Cross-functional revenue visibility

To inform revenue projections, OVG built a customer revenue model that tracked daily usage and calculated revenue across multiple pricing models for pacing and short-term forecasting. This model provided value for not only Finance but GTM, Product, and Accounting as well. Signals from Fabric were then fed back into the CRM for Sales.

Transitioning from standard reporting to agentic delivery

Beyond standard financial reporting packages, the client is moving quickly into the agentic future. OVG built a custom plugin connecting Fabric to a leading frontier lab that is already deployed at the executive level. Next, the Executive Agent will expand to everything in Fabric, adding data, context, and agentic capabilities that grow with the business.

The results

The APM solution enabled the client to run consistent monthly forecasts with far less effort, build Finance business partnerships, and work more closely with Recruiting, HR, Sales, and IT on key business processes. It also saved significantly on software: the client spends a fraction of what they would spend on a specialized CPM tool. And with no long-term contract, the client minimizes lock-in risk.

In Their Words

Over the past two years, OVG has helped us move from a web of Excel-based financial forecast and reporting models to an integrated foundation based in Microsoft Fabric. That foundation fits naturally within our Microsoft environment and has reduced the manual effort and increased the accuracy required to bring financial data together for forecasting, reporting, and analysis.
‍
Implementing this has transformed how we manage financial data and has likely resulted in significant cost savings compared to deploying a traditional SaaS forecasting platform. Just as valuable, our finance team has greater flexibility to refine its models and answer new questions as the business scales rapidly.
‍
Working together from a late-stage private company to now a newly public company, OVG has been able to add real value across our team. In the latest phase of our partnership, OVG is helping create AI agents that interact directly with our financial data, laying the groundwork for what could become a cutting-edge, AI-native environment. OVG has been a hardworking and thoughtful partner in building a system we can continue to own and develop.
