Low-Code Case Study: Power Apps for Project Operations

This week we launched a Project Operations app to manage OVG's contracts, projects, resources, timekeeping, and invoicing.

In less than a month, leveraging Microsoft Power Platform, we built an app that gives us real-time visibility into revenue, team capacity, utilization, and project health. We replaced a SaaS model that worked but was cumbersome and too expensive for us as a growing business.

We were able to build the app ourselves with only a strong understanding of our business and our dual threat skillsets, without any specialized resources.

In only a few weeks we were able release a fully functional web/mobile app that is customized to meet our exact needs, can be continuously improved by our team in real-time, and will scale with us. It's as easy to use as any other iPhone app.

The process of building this app highlighted the incredible latent value of low-code development becoming accessible to business operators. Similar to how business teams took more ownership of cloud applications like Salesforce, Coupa, and Anaplan over the past decade, low-code apps provide even more power and adaptability for a much lower price.

Low-code will transition from an IT specialization to a collaborative business endeavor, and drive value across countless use cases. The financial barriers to entry for low-code are shockingly minimal and drive a compelling business case to experiment.

As a 12-person firm, we have access to the same platform as a $3T company for only $20 more per user per month - no new software vendors or long-term contracts to worry about. And with the help of AI, the time and/or services required to implement are low.

We are excited to continue our own low-code journey for planning and operations and are already helping some of our clients take their first steps. We’d love to hear from others who are making similar advancements!
